The Sanctity of Life

The Sanctity of Life

Since it appeared in a woven bracelet in the 1990s, the question "What Would Jesus Do?" has wound its way into American culture on every level looking for and giving opinions based on the Word of God on what Jesus would do about the hot social issues of the day.

What would Jesus have to say about abortion today?

As Christians, we need to raise our voices from every corner of this nation and world that enough babies have been killed, and that it is time for the killing to end.

As a pastor of this church, if I never take a position on such prominent social issues, then our silence on same-sex marriage or abortion can be interpreted by many in the congregation and community that we either are indifferent or condone them.

Abortion is wrong because it is wrong to kill babies. It is as simple and profound as that. Any other position is inconsistent with the Christian faith. We know the truth. Question, “What will we do?”

In a day when the killing of babies has become not only tolerated, but also encouraged and accepted by politicians across the political spectrum, it’s up to the church of Jesus Christ to speak out. We must speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves.

Deut. 30:19, “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.

On this social issue, I will not support a person who believes it is permissible to kill unborn babies. God commands us to “Choose life!”

Dante Alighieri a 13th Century poet wrote, “The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who in times of great moral crisis maintain their neutrality.”

This is no time for neutrality. As Christians, this is no time to look the other way.

The devil comes to take life; Jesus came to bring life. Let us be clear about it.

In John 10:10 Jesus reminded us that “the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Throughout world history and especially in God’s Word, we read about the annihilation and murder of babies who would be linked to God’s destiny for their lives.

EX: We read about Moses and Jesus, who God used to deliver His people. Those who promote abortion, (murder) in the name of “choice” and “women’s rights” have joined forces with our enemy and will one-day answer to God for the innocent lives they have taken.

Prov. 24:12, “Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?”

This is a command for individuals, families, churches, cities, states, and nations.

We have seen our point of view ridiculed, vilified, hated, and mocked. Our nation is in a “Moral Crisis." We as a church must stand against it with all that we have.

2 Cor. 10:4, “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.”

God has given us one weapon that the unbeliever does not have—the weapon of prayer. He’s given us a weapon, which is the mightiest, most powerful weapon in the world. It is the weapon, which can change the world.

We should be on our knees praying for our nation and for those who are killing the unborn babies.

1. It is time we begin to fast and pray for America.

2. We need to speak out in the name of Jesus Christ.

3. We need to take our pro-life convictions into the voting booth. If we would do that, America would change.

4. We need to get to the root of the problem. We need to practice and teach sexual purity to our teens and children.
